"This book was never meant to be read from beginning to end. It is hoped that you will read the first seventeen pages and then just skip around, from building to monument to street and discover and enjoy.

For those who think that this is not a scholarly work — you are correct! Like all edited journals, it is a triumph of style over substance. However, for those that think this non-referenced work is not accurate — you are incorrect!

This is an edited work, the basis of which was founded on information in Wikipedia and cross-referenced to obituaries, Naval Archives, hundreds of websites and other less scholarly — but nonetheless journaled — books and articles. The purpose of this document is to give the reader a one-stop source of information without having to climb through hours of internet or library searches. Think of this journal as the Amazon.com information background source for USNA. As such, this is a starting — not ending — point!"
